Aphex Twin – Melodies from Mars

Aphex Twin - Melodies from Mars
20th Aug 20247th Feb 2025 ~ George's Music Blog ~ Leave a comment

Probably the most famous 'unofficial' Aphex Twin collection, Melodies from Mars has never seen an official release, despite the mp3s being in circulation for years.

Despite containing mainly sketches and off-cuts, there's a huge amount of creativity on display on this EP.

Joyrex J9 is probably the weakest of the Caustic Window trio, lacking does a Cordialatron or On the Romance Tip. Not that there isn't some industrial-strength acid rave gold here.

The first Joyrex EP was an anonymous looking slab of wax, attributed to 'Caustic Window'; the first Richard D James release to appear on the label he set up with Grant Wilson-Claridge, Rephlex Records.

Eels – Extreme Witchcraft (2022) – Album Review

27th Mar 202214th May 2024 ~ George's Music Blog ~ Leave a comment

E’s song-writing prowess is undeniable; his characteristic turn-of-phrase and the ease at which he turns out catchy ditty one after the other gives you the feeling he could do this in his sleep.

This week, I've been listening to Dry Cleaning's first two EPs, Sweet Princess and Boundary Road Snacks & Drinks, and the new GCOM project by Tom Middleton.

2nd Feb 202214th May 2024 ~ George's Music Blog ~ Leave a comment

The British producer Simon Green, better known by his longstanding Bonobo alias, is one of those few artists who successfully executed the transition from bedroom beatsmith to big-ticket draw.
