Snapped Ankles – Forest of Your Problems (2021) – Album Review

Snapped Ankles
31st Jul 202114th May 2024 ~ George's Music Blog ~ 1 Comment

Forest of Your Problems maintains a high energy level throughout, with the band not missing a beat as they transition from post-punk, to wigged out synth jams to the funky, ‘The Prince is Back’.

Daniel Avery – Together in Static (2021) – Album Review

15th Jul 202114th May 2024 ~ George's Music Blog ~ 1 Comment

Together in Static is Avery’s document from a strange time and feels like a neat encapsulation of the feelings – hope, uncertainty, anticipation - shared by everyone looking forward to experiencing their next live music experience.

Loraine James – Reflection (2021) – Album Review

2nd Jul 202114th May 2024 ~ George's Music Blog ~ 1 Comment

Rather than club music or urban music, Loraine James says that first and foremost, she produces ‘experimental music’.

µ-Ziq – Scurlage (2021) – Album Review

9th Jun 202114th May 2024 ~ George's Music Blog ~ 3 Comments

It’s characteristic of the album as a whole, and in fact much of µ-Ziq’s discography - that Mike Paradinas' best moments come when he plays it a bit lighter and doesn’t overcomplicate things.

Skee Mask – Pool (2021) – Album Review

29th May 202114th May 2024 ~ George's Music Blog ~ 1 Comment

With the release of his third full-length album, Bryan Müller a.k.a. Skee Mask has surely established himself as one of the leading figures at the vanguard of electronic music.

John Beltran – The Season Series (2020)

28th May 202114th May 2024 ~ George's Music Blog ~ Leave a comment

Using deceptively simple elements - piano, guitar, synths and the occasional angelic vocal sample, John Beltran has done a majestic job on The Season Series of channeling the beauty and fragility of nature, as well as capturing its state of constant flux.

Sofia Kourtesis – Fresia Magdalena (2021) – Review

27th May 202114th May 2024 ~ George's Music Blog ~ 1 Comment

As it traverses that blurred spectrum from house to techno, Fresia Magdalena remains an invitingly warm record, with its vintage crackles and hiss of analogue. But Kourtesis is careful to include just the right amount of crunch and poke to prevent things getting too soft around the edges.

Leon Vynehall – Rare, Forever (2021)

14th May 202114th May 2024 ~ George's Music Blog ~ 1 Comment

Leon Vynehall is not afraid of exploring weighty topics with his music and in contrast to many electronic artists, revealing much about his own identity in the process. On his latest album ‘Rare, Forever, this includes his own doubts, anxieties and fears, both as an artist and a human being.

Spirit of the Beehive – ENTERTAINMENT, DEATH (2021)

4th May 202114th May 2024 ~ George's Music Blog ~ 1 Comment

Spirit of the Beehive’s ENTERTAINMENT, DEATH is not psychedelic music in the normal sense of the term, although like most psychedelic music it does make for a disorientating listening experience.

Andy Stott – Never the Right Time (2021)

3rd May 202114th May 2024 ~ George's Music Blog ~ 2 Comments

Andy Stott's music is defined by the ever-present feeling of friction, the rub of needles bouncing into the red zone on a bank of dials. But this is tempered by a languid sensuality.
